Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data is processed when you visit neopicassa.com. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In short

• No account, no forms, no comments: you never send us anything yourself.
• No cookies, and nothing is stored in your browser.
• Visitor numbers are counted with a self-hosted, cookie-free tool (Umami).
• Pages, images and fonts come from this site; the statistics script comes from our own Umami server. No third party is contacted while you browse.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted by Infomaniak Network SA in Geneva, Switzerland. When you open a page, the server records technical data your browser sends anyway: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and the browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure. The logs are kept by Infomaniak for a limited time and then deleted; they are not combined with other data.

Visitor statistics (Umami)

To see which pages are read, the site uses Umami, an open-source analytics tool that runs on a server operated by Dominic Rutishauser (umami.dominicrutishauser.ch), not by a third party. Umami sets no cookies and does not build profiles. It records the page visited, the referring site, browser, operating system, device type and country (derived from the IP address). The IP address itself is not stored: a visit is counted with an anonymous identifier, a hash that changes every month, so visits cannot be linked over longer periods or traced back to you. Nothing is shared with anyone else.

To see how the site is used, Umami also counts a few interactions, again without cookies and without anything that identifies you:

• Looking closer at a painting: when the magnifier or the full-screen view is used, which painting it was, how many seconds it was used and whether you zoomed in.
• Search: the words typed into the search bar and how many results they found, so we can see what visitors look for and what is missing. Please don’t type personal information into the search.
• Reading: on paintings, painters and essays, how far down the text you scrolled and for how many seconds you were active on the page (scrolling, moving the pointer or typing).
• Links to other sites: when you follow a link to another website, such as a painting’s source on Wikimedia Commons, the address of that link.

If you block Umami, for example with a content blocker, none of this is recorded and the site works just the same.

Fonts

The typefaces Cormorant Garamond and EB Garamond are served from this site’s own server. Your browser does not contact Google or any other font provider.

Links to other websites

Artwork pages link to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, and the footer links to dominicrutishauser.ch. Those sites are only contacted when you follow a link; their own privacy policies apply.

Your rights

You may ask what personal data about you is processed, have it corrected or deleted, object to its processing, and complain to a supervisory authority (in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, FDPIC). Since this site stores no data that identifies you, there will usually be nothing to hand over. Write to the address in the Impressum.
